Westinghouse is a trusted maker of electrical products in the U.S. One of the popular products of the Westinghouse WGen series is the WGen7500 generator, perfect for emergencies, camping, and tailgating.

It is a medium-sized portable generator that’s quiet, easy to maintain, and has enough power for a small home’s appliances.

In this review, we check out the WGen7500’s noise, load capacity, fuel efficiency, and how easy it is to move around. Find out its strengths and weaknesses under light, medium, and heavy use.

Our review starts with the design. This generator is made of a very high-quality steel frame with cast iron sleeves.

It is a bit heavy for a 7500-watt generator, but the overall dimensions are compact so it wouldn’t take much space.

Main Features and Performance

  • I love that Westinghouse includes a remote start feature in their modern generators. It’s super handy, especially during camping when we need power at night. With the remote start, we can avoid getting up in the dark to start it manually, making things so much easier.
  • The electric start comes with an automatic choke, and while you can set it manually, I personally prefer the automatic option.
  • When you unbox the Westinghouse WGen7500, you’ll find useful items like a measuring oil bottle, a specially designed funnel, a spark plug wrench, a remote, a battery, and a float charger.
  • The WGen7500 is known for being one of the most fuel-efficient generators in the WGen series.
  • It’s designed to run for a long time on a single tank, thanks to its 420cc engine producing 9500 peak watts and 7500 running watts. That’s plenty of power to run almost everything in your house, except for a whole-house AC.
  • On the control panel, you’ll find two 120V GFI 20amp outlets and a standard L14-30R plug. All the plugs have rain covers for protection against moisture and dirt. This generator is a plug-and-go machine, ready to use right out of the box.
  • The WGen7500 also features a digital hour meter that tracks runtime hours, frequency, and voltage. It’s helpful for maintenance reminders. And like other Westinghouse generators, the WGen7500 is CARB, EPA, and CSA-approved.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s get to the results of the several tests we conducted in our lab.

Noise Test of Westinghouse WGen7500:

This generator is equipped with a pulse-flo muffler to suppress the extra noise. To test that, we conducted some noise tests, and here are the results:

  • From 30 feet away, under a 25% load, the noise was 67 to 68 dB.
  • From 40 feet away, under a 25% load, the noise was 63 to 64 dB.

Compared to the 7500-watt generators, the Westinghouse WGen7500 is quieter. We are impressed with the low noise levels.

Runtime and Capacity Test:

The Westinghouse WGen7500 portable generator claims to run for 11 hours at a 50% load, and we put that claim to the test.

Using a 6.6-gallon tank at a 55% load, it impressively provided me with 11 hours and 5 minutes of power. I conducted this test at two intervals.

This trial took place during a camping trip in the wilderness, where the generator was positioned approximately 50 feet away from the camp. Fortunately, the remote control worked flawlessly from that distance.

If you’re in search of a robust and fuel-efficient machine, the Westinghouse WGen7500 deserves a top spot on your list of considerations.

Load Test of WGen7500:

The Westinghouse WGen7500 is equipped with a very powerful engine, and I anticipated delivering an impressive 11 hours and 5 minutes of runtime at a 55% load.

While I own several generators, some of which I use for my trailer while camping, the Westinghouse WGen7500 has become a reliable choice.

In multiple instances, I put it to the test with a load of around 7400 running watts and 9350 peak watts. Running essentials like lights, a 15000 BTU AC, a small fridge, and more, this generator effortlessly handles the load without triggering overload alarms.

I do exercise caution, though, and as soon as I approach the 7450-watt mark, I proactively reduce some of the load. Despite having overload protection, I prefer not to take any unnecessary risks.

For power hungry applaince westinghouse Westinghouse WGen9500DF would be an ideal choice.
