Westinghouse iGen4500 Review
The Westinghouse iGen4500 stands as the flagship of the Westinghouse generator series, loaded with features.
It combines portability, exceptional power output (double that of most inverter models), surprising quietness, and user-friendly maintenance.
With a 244-cc engine, it delivers 3700 running watts and 4500 peak watts, ample for powering all RV appliances, from fridges to microwaves and AC units.
This comprehensive Westinghouse iGen4500 review evaluates noise levels, load handling, runtime, efficiency, portability, and diverse applications.
This model is popular for a lot of reasons. It packs a lot of punch in a smaller body, is less noisy than its competitors, and the power it produces is very clean, which makes it ideal for sensitive electronics like cell phones, laptops, etc.
The Westinghouse iGen4500 is RV-ready with a 30-amp plug. It also comes with two 120V, 20-amp household standard plugs, an outlet for parallel connection, and two USB outlets.
Main Features of the Westinghouse iGen4500:
A generator is known for how much power it can deliver, how long it can run on a single tank, and how much noise it can generate. We started by testing the noise levels by conducting several noise tests; here are the results.
Noise Test of the Westinghouse iGen4500:
4500-watt generation capacity is high. It is bound to make some noise; we knew that before the tests. So here are the results:
- From 15 feet away, under efficiency mode with 50% load, the noise was 61 to 62 dB (on eco-mode).
- From 30 feet away, under efficiency mode with 50% load, the noise was 53 to 54 dB.
The reason noise levels are so low despite being a medium-sized generator is the design.
The iGen4500 is made like a small suitcase with a closed frame design featuring a very decent muffler. All these things combine to suppress the noise, resulting in low noise levels.
Load Test of the Westinghouse iGen4500:
Next up was the load handling test. We challenged the Westinghouse iGen4500 by powering up my RV’s AC, microwave, heater, and various small devices, creating a substantial 3600W load at 119V and 30.43amps to assess its capacity.
Impressively, the iGen4500 seamlessly handled all appliances simultaneously, with only a minor alteration in the noise pattern.
It performed remarkably until the output power reached 4003W, triggering the overload light and prompting me to conclude the test.
While it can handle loads up to 3651 watts without issue, I recommend maintaining a moderate load and avoiding pushing it to its limits for optimal performance.

Runtime Test of the Westinghouse iGen4500
The Westinghouse manufacturers claim this generator can run for 18 hours at a quarter load. We tested that theory in one of our RVs by running it overnight.
We ran an electric fireplace for about 2 hours; our 2 recliner seats were also on (those don’t draw much); we also ran our electric heater; we use the microwave a couple of times throughout the day to heat our coffee and stuff; and we also cranked our AC in the afternoon (we are in Florida).
Throughout the day, the appliances were on and off depending on the need, but we were above quarter load.
The total load was about 35% to 38% on average, and the Westinghouse iGen4500 ran for 16 hours.
