WEN Vs Honda Generators – Brand Comparison

The main difference between Honda and Wen brands is the price range. WEN generators are affordable and reliable, with a range of output levels and safety features. Honda generators offer exceptional performance and durability, with advanced features such as inverter technology and eco-throttle for optimal fuel efficiency, but they are super expensive compared to other brands in a similar power output range.

Ultimately, choosing between Wen and Honda generators depends on individual power needs and budget.

Honda has been a major player in the generator and engine manufacturing market since 1973.

When I was young, my family relied on an old Honda EG2200X generator during camping trips.

It was reliable and my dad still has it because of the great memories it brings.

Honda generators are built to last and meet high standards. They’re known for their lightweight and quiet inverter generators that are great for various uses.

Although they can be pricier than other brands, Honda generators are worth the investment due to their quality, performance, and durability in the long run.

Wen was founded in 1951 by Nick Anton. The company is still based in Illinois since it was founded but the manufacturing task is handled by China under the supervision of Wen.

The main objective of the Wen brand is to develop and promote high-quality and affordable power tools.

With over 50 years of experience in the power industry, Wen brand has sold more than 50 million power tools including portable generators.

The Wen generators are very lightweight, portable, affordable, and reliable. Their inverter generator series has been used as a backup power source for many years now.

Detailed Comparison of The WEN and Honda

For this comparison, I have taken data from the tests conducted on Wen 56203i, Wen 56380i, Honda EU2000i, and Honda EU3000is.

1. Noise:

A small inverter generator must be quiet otherwise, you will get an earful from your neighbors. Fortunately, both Wen 56203i and Honda EU2000IS are quiet.

Honda was able to generate 53 to 54dB from 23ft. away while Wen 56203i generated 53 to 54dB from 24 ft. away.

Honda EU3000is produced 53 to 54dB from 23.5 feet away on ECO mode while WEN 56380i 61 to 62dB from 22ft. away.

As you can see, the difference is not significant. I will still give some edge to Honda in the noise department in noise department because its noise levels don’t change even under heavy load.

The winner is Honda.

2. Power Output:

There is not much difference between the Honda and WEN brands when it comes to power. Once again, I took two popular models from the respective brands for this test.

WEN 56203i is rated at 2000 surge watts and 1700 running watts, and the Honda EU2000is is rated at 2200 surge watts and 1800 running watts.

According to my load test, the following were the results.

  • The Honda EU2200i produced 2190 peak watts and 1778 running watts.
  • The WEN 56203i produced 1990 peak watts and 1685 running watts.

Both are winners.

3. Fuel-Efficiency:

This is a very important factor in deciding which generator has the edge here. I have conducted several runtime tests on Honda EU2000i and Wen 56203i to determine fuel efficiency.

Following are the results I found.

  • Honda EU2200i: 8.2 hours @ 25% load (0.95-gal tank)
  • Wen 56203i: 10.1 hours @ 25% load (1-gal tank)

The difference is not significantly larger. Despite having a smaller tank, Honda was able to run for a long time.

WEN on the other hand ran for almost 10 hours on the third try as well at only 25% load.

Both are winners.

4. Reliability:

I have not yet heard any complaints about Honda or WEN generators not being reliable under pressure.

Both brands are super professional when it comes to ultra-quality assurance. WEN generator is more reliable than HONDA solely based on the price difference.

Both are winners.

5. Safety:

All the generators in the U.S. must be EPA or CARB-compliant to pass the initial safety test. Both the WEN and Honda generators are EPA-compliant.

Additionally, all the modern Honda generators including EU2200i and EU3000is come with the latest CO-minder technology.

CO-minder sensor automatically shuts down the generator when there is an increased concentration of Carbon monoxide to prevent CO poisoning.

Unfortunately, WEN generators don’t have CO sensors.

The winner is Honda.

Both the WEN 56203i and Honda EU2200i generators have similar running and surge wattage.

The Honda generator has a larger 121cc engine, whereas the WEN has a smaller 79cc engine, but the WEN generator has a bigger fuel tank of 1.06 gallons compared to Honda’s 0.95-gallon fuel tank.

The Honda generator is extremely fuel-efficient, but the WEN generator has a decent runtime of up to 10 hours at 25% load.

The HONDA EU2000i has a 98.5cc OHV engine, while the WEN 56203i has a slightly larger 79.7cc OHV engine.

This means that the HONDA EU2000i may be slightly more powerful and efficient, but the WEN 56203i may be more budget-friendly and offer comparable performance.

In terms of noise, the WEN generator produces up to 53 to 54dB decibels from 23 feet away, which is like Honda’s 53 to 54dB from a similar distance.

Both generators are easy to maintain, with WEN requiring oil changes every 50 hours of usage.

When it comes to weight, the WEN generator is lighter than the Honda, weighing in at 39.5 pounds, compared to Honda’s 47.4 pounds.

Both generators can be linked in parallel with another generator of the same model for increased power output.

However, the Honda EU2000i requires an additional parallel kit for this feature, while the WEN 56203i comes with parallel connection cables included.

The WEN 56203i generator is significantly cheaper than the Honda EU2200i, so it may be a better option for those on a budget.

However, if you prioritize reduced noise and weight, the Honda EU2200i may still be a better option. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference and intended use.
