I Tested And Reviewed The Champion 2000 Watt Inverter Generator

Champion 2000 Watt is one of the lightest yet powerful inverter generators with multiple fuel options and an extensive control panel as well.

Because of the extreme portability and sufficient peak and rated wattages, I mainly use this machine for camping, tailgating, and mini-events.

This review is based on practical noise, runtime, load, frequency, sturdiness, and other essential tests conducted by me and my team.

Unboxing Experience:

Champion 2000 watt comes with engine oil, funnel, charging cables, USB adapter, LPG hose (I purchased a dual fuel model), and some user manuals.

Design and Build Quality:

The build quality is reasonably well; don’t expect sturdiness like Honda eu2200i, champion 2500 watt, and other expensive machines because the main motive is to build this machine lighter with an affordable price and camping-oriented features to enhance the campers’ journies.

I was impressed with the compactness and portability of the unit, it only weighs 39 lbs. without fuel, and with a full tank, it barely weighs 41 – 42 lbs. Moreover, a briefcase-styled handle is life-saving for roaming it around.

The front side of the machine has a decent control panel and the back contains a spark arrestor. The right side has a recoil start; however the left offers a toolless entry for super quick maintenance.

Efficiency/Runtime, Tank Size, and Fuel Options:

Champion 2000-watt dual fuel inverter generator is equipped with a 1.05-lb gasoline tank and a hose to attach a huge LPG tank.

With a full tank of gasoline, it runs uninterruptedly for about 11 hours at a load of 25%, however with a slightly increased load (30 – 35%) I got 10 hours which is amazing.

For propane runtime, I connected my BBQ tank of 20-lb BBQ and I was pleasantly surprised that this little beast runs for 12 – 13 hours.

Load Test (Exploring the Capacity):

Champion 2000-watt dual fuel has a powerful 4-stroke 79-cc Champion’s engine that generates 2000 surge and 1700 rated watts on gasoline, however, on LPG (propane), you will get 1800 surge and 1440 rated watts.

Besides a decent capacity, the unit has <3% THD (total harmonic distortion) meaning your voltage-sensitive appliances will be safe.

Below are some of the appliances I have run to explore the limits.

Recommended Guide: If your needs are high go for the champion 4500 watts inverter generator.

Ports and Outlets:

  • Fuel selector dial.
  • Circuit breakers.
  • Parallel ports
  • Choke.
  • Eco mode button.
  • Indicating lights (low oil, economy mode, and load)
  • 12V, 8A DC outlet.
  • 2x 120V, 20 A AC outlet.
  • Ground.

Bugs and weather protective covers are also included for each port and outlet to ensure the generator can perform flawlessly even in harsh weather.

Noise Test:

For better accuracy, I and my team conducted 3 tests, one on no load with eco mode, 2nd on 25% load, and 3rd on full load (close to 96 – 98% load). All the tests were conducted from 24 fts.

Below are the results:

  1. At idle (no load) with eco mode “ON”, I was getting around 60 – 62 dB (A).
  2. With 25 – 30% load it emits around 70 – 72 dB (A).
  3. With full load (96 – 98%) I was getting around 74 – 75 dB (A)

As per the tests, the generator isn’t super salient, 70 – 74 dB (A) could irritae a person like me, I recommend keeping it at least 40 – 50 ft. from the camp.

Portability:

The compactness and super convenient briefcase-styled carrying handle allow me to roam it around without breaking a sweat. In addition to that, this machine can fit easily in the front compartment of the RV.

Parallel Compatibility:

Though this machine is not as powerful as the champion 4500 watts, Honda eu3000IS, and other heavy machines, still it offers parallel ports meaning you can combine two compatible portable generators to double the power.

NOTE: You need to purchase a separate compatible parallel kit for combining the two machines.

Maintenance:

Like other premium portable machines, the champion 2000-watt only needs an oil change, filter cleaning, and spark plug inspection right after 6 months, depending on the usage.

Also, it offers tool-less entry on the side for super quick and hassle-free maintenance.

Warranty and Customer Support:

Champion Power Equipment is offering 3 years of limited warranty with lifetime customer support. You can visit the champion’s support page for further details.

Safety Features:

The machine doesn’t have a CO sensor which might be a good addition in this price range, still, it is providing <3% THD with low oil and overload protection backed by CARB and EPA certifications.
