My Honda EU2200i Review – Maybe the Quietest Generator?
This review is based on our noise, load, fuel efficiency, and other tests in our lab. We also asked 22 Honda EU2200i users to share their views to finalize the data.
Why You Should Buy a Honda EU2200i
If you are looking for an ultra-quiet inverter generator close to 2000 watts that is portable, compact, durable, and fuel-efficient, the Honda EU2200i should be your choice.
It is recommended for outdoor enthusiasts and regular campers who need a quieter power source.
The Honda EU2200i is back again in my lab, and I am going to test its noise, fuel efficiency, portability, and other aspects.
My overall view is that it may be the quietest and most durable portable generator ever in the 2000-watt category.
The EU2200i could be a bit costly, but the inverter technology and durability of the parts are unbelievable, and it is specially made for campers and outdoor enthusiasts. It can also be used as a backup power source.
Let’s get to the review, which is based on my tests.
Honda EU2200i Review
My first impression of this 1800 running watts and 2200 surge watts Honda EU22200i generator was “Wow!”. I loved the aesthetics, its compactness, and its overall lightweight frame.
Although I didn’t get any tools, oils, or wrenches with the box, I am not disappointed because I already expected that from Honda.
One of our experts in our lab thinks the control panel is super clean and user-friendly, with X2 120V 15amp outlets, an overload indicator, an output indicator, and an oil-level indicator. I also agree with him. The simpler, the better.
I loved how simple the Honda EG2200X was back in the 90s, and the EU2200i follows the same principle.
It also comes with a parallel option, which means you can connect two Honda EU22200i together to double the output, which is cool.
We tested the parallel capability in the lab, and it works.
There is also a small 12V plug to charge car batteries and small 12V appliances. You can’t jump-start your battery from this plug, so don’t even try.
In older Honda generators like the EG2200X, there wasn’t a ramp underneath the oil plug to prevent spillage and mess. There is one in the Honda EU2200i.
It is a small detail, but trust me, it is crucial to stop the mess whenever you replace the oil.
Another small detail they’ve added is the safety ON/OFF valve on the fuel cap to seal the fuel vapors from evaporating.
One of my teammate’s old generators caught fire due to spontaneous combustion due to evaporated fumes contacting an ignition source nearby. So, safety comes first.
We also appreciate the carbon monoxide sensor, which will automatically shut off the generator in cases of high concentrations of carbon monoxide to prevent catastrophe.
The only complaint I have is the lack of electric start for the price I paid. My entire team of 15 people thinks there should be an electric start.
We conducted a couple of tests; here are the results.
Noise Test:
- 25 feet away. The noise was 53 to 54 dB with ECO-MODE ON.
- Without ECO-Mode. As a result, noise was around 62 to 63 dB.
These results can vary depending on the environmental noise, but overall, the Honda EU2200i is a super-silent inverter generator.
Load Test:
Before conducting the load test, I downloaded the Honda Generator app and connected it to the Bluetooth of my phone.
I gave it some load equivalent to 15000 BTU AC, and I got around 1750 running watts.
I increased the load, and I got around 2150 peak watts and 1777 running watts, and the overload alarm turned on. I shut off the generator.

Fuel-Efficiency Test:
On 0.95 gallons. We got around 3 hours at 100% on a full tank and more than 8 hours at 25% load.
The generator should be in good condition to get the same fuel efficiency as we did. Change the oil on time, and clean the spark plug regularly.
